Lifelong learning institutes

Lifelong Learning Institutes (LLI) or Institutes for Learning in Retirement (ILRs), are affiliated with the Elderhostel Institute Network, a voluntary association of LLIs that is funded by Elderhostel, Inc. LLIs provide an array of academic programs, cultural offerings, community service initiatives, and housing options. LLIs are run and operated at a local level by its members. LLIs are structured like a typical college program, with regular semesters and in some instances, homework. There are an estimated 300 LLIs nationwide serving approximately 10,000 adult learners. LLIs are planned and operated by and for people 55 and older. ILR fees vary by region and may include membership, annual, and course fees.
