A study by the National Alliance for Caregiving and the National Center on Women and Aging at Brandeis University found that caregiving affects employee productivity through increased absenteeism, early retirement and turnover, and decreases in on-the-job effectiveness.
Supportive services such as adult daycare can help workers maintain employment. Employers could help by sponsoring eldercare services or other support programs. Despite the losses both employers and employees incur, only 23 percent of companies with 100 or more employees have formal programs to support caregivers (e.g., employer-sponsored programs or eldercare services).
