Texas Mental Health and Aging Coalition
The Coalition's membership includes representatives from the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services, Texas Department of State Health Services, AARP, Advocacy, Inc., National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, Alzheimer's Association, Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Adult Protective Services, and Texas Legal Services Center. Agency representatives are working to address the mental health needs of older Texans by:
- Promoting appropriate mental health care for older adults
- Combating the stigma associated with mental and emotional problems
- Asserting the importance of emotional well-being, prevention and self-help programs for elders
- Educating professionals, the general public, decision makers, and older individuals about mental health issues for older Texans
- Encouraging older men and women to use the services of mental health professionals, volunteers, and other self-help programs.
