Elderhostels
In addition to academic instruction, Elderhostel programs offer course-related field trips and excursions, extracurricular activities, free time to pursue individual interests, travel assistance and insurance plan. However, low-income older adults with low levels of education are less likely to participate in Elderhostel programs. Demographic information collected by a recent Elderhostel, Inc. survey indicated that participants are predominantly female (61%), and about 50 percent are over the age of 70. The majority are married (70%), have completely retired (69%), and are educated (46 percent have at least a Bachelors degree).
