  • Transportation services - Assisting an older person get to nutrition sites and senior centers, doctors' appointments, shopping and other essential destinations;

  • Senior centers - Sites for a variety of functions such as meals, nutrition services, employment services, health screening, recreation, and a venue for social interaction;

  • Volunteer services - The Corporation for National and Community Service, for which TDoA administers state funds, allows seniors to participate in the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) program, Senior Companion Program, and Foster Grandparent Program;

  • Telephone reassurance/visiting - Regular contact and companionship to older adults, a necessary support to those adults who wish to live independently in the community; and

  • Other services - These include, but are not limited to adult day care, emergency response systems, and escort services.

Please note: service availability of the programs listed above varies by region.

The Senior Citizens Program (SCP) available through the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services is geared toward reducing the communication barriers and the isolation facing people 60 and older who are deaf or hard of hearing. Services vary from region to region and may include coping-skills training, independent living services, and recreational activities.
