Federal, state, and local volunteer programs
Many federal volunteer programs have corresponding state volunteer programs, which are provided by state agencies, such as the Foster Grandparent Program.
In a survey conducted by the Texas Department on Aging (now the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services), eight state agencies reported 14 different volunteer programs available to older Texans. No gaps in services were reported for more than half of the programs listed, and most agencies reported the services listed either target or have specific outreach for older Texans.
